Lead generation
How to get better quote requests from your website
More leads are not automatically better leads. If every website enquiry still requires several calls or messages just to understand the job, the website is creating admin rather than reducing it.
01
Replace the generic contact form
The standard contact form is easy to build but weak operationally. Messages such as 'need a quote please' give the business almost nothing to work with.
A quote journey should capture the minimum useful context before asking for contact details. This improves the first response and can help the business identify jobs that are urgent, outside the service area or better suited to a different service.
02
Ask only questions that affect the next step
Every field should earn its place. If the answer does not affect qualification, pricing, scheduling or the way the team responds, it probably does not belong before submission.
For trades, useful fields commonly include service type, property type, location, timing and optional photos. For cleaners, property size and frequency matter. For professional services, the problem category and preferred consultation method may be more useful.
03
Use conditional logic
Customers should not have to answer questions that do not apply to them. A commercial cleaning enquiry can follow a different path from a weekly domestic clean. A roof repair can ask different questions from a full replacement.
Conditional forms feel shorter because each customer sees a journey relevant to their request. They also produce cleaner lead data for the business.
04
Collect proof from the customer when it helps
Photo uploads can materially improve the first assessment for roofing, landscaping, decorating, repairs and other visual work. They should be optional where forcing an upload would create unnecessary friction.
The same principle applies to documents, measurements or reference information in other sectors. Ask for supporting material only when it helps the business make a better decision before contact.
05
Set expectations after submission
The confirmation state should explain what happens next. If the team normally reviews enquiries before calling, say that. If urgent jobs should call directly, surface that option clearly.
Automated confirmation can reassure the customer that the enquiry arrived, while internal notifications or CRM routing can make sure the lead reaches the right person quickly.
06
Measure quality, not just volume
Analytics should record meaningful actions such as completed quote requests, bookings and phone-click events. Over time, the business can compare which services and landing pages produce useful enquiries rather than simply counting total traffic.
The strongest website is not necessarily the one with the most form submissions. It is the one that creates a reliable flow of enquiries the business actually wants to respond to.
